Just to close off my original post in this thread, the new handle was fitted yesterday. All back to square one, hopefully!

Same diagnosis as Onthecharge. Dealer has ordered a new handle.

My e has developed a fault on the passenger door - the outside handle does not retract at all, or only partially, when it should. This includes when the car is locked, or when it is being driven.
I have it booked in to the dealer next week to be fixed. Will update here if there's anything to say!
