I have owned 8 Hondas in the past, and enjoyed them all, being completely faultless, including my e:HEV HR-V and e:HEV CR-V.

I finally realised that Honda's wonderful reputation for reliability is sliding fast. Their sales on both the antipodes and U.K. are falling. Here probably because the high purchase prices no longer match the quality , coupled with the above and the ridiculous cost of insurance of any Honda HEV or E model. I would put £5 of my OAP on the fact that within 10 years Honda will have followed Mitsubishi and withdrawn from the U.K. market. We are, after all, considered to be a very small market by Honda.

I finally took the plunge and bought a year old Kia eNiro. SEVEN years warranty and with an almost faultless reliability record. With an excellent dealers who cares!
I did drive a Honda E once and loved it. I would have bought one had the battery range not been useless for my needs.

I hope you all manage to get some redress from Honda, but my breath is not being held!! :?

Did i have a similar issue with my Honda? my EBS issue was a 3k repair quote, i ended up paying 1800, ive uploaded my receipts etc in that thread

Certainly sounds like it mate.

On the one hand, well done for getting the reduced rate compared to the potential full cost, but on the other hand it does appear as though Honda have broken even on the work, which in itself doesn’t seem quite right for ‘goodwill’.

I am ready to accept that the root cause of this fault occurs at the assembly portion of the servo installed in our Hondas, but I still strongly believe that it is exacerbated the by poor practice of dealership brake fluid changes that we pay for.

I think moisture-rich brake fluid is being left in contact with fine, sensitive electrical components within the braking system and accelerating their corrosion internally.

Adding in the driving habits of many owners (short, slow town driving etc) and the reduced use of the friction braking system compared to an ICE vehicle (due to regen etc) and I think the same fluid doesn’t get moved around the system quite as much, and thus has more time to dwell in the servo areas and cause corrosion.

If you’re ready to tackle your dealership head on and see if you can recover some/all of your costs then please use my how to as you see fit. Since you’ve had a new unit installed, one would hope that the Japanese recall has prompted a change in manufacturing process with Nissin, but then we are all still subject to main dealer ‘servicing standards’ so it may come back again down the line.

Does the brake fluid really has an effect on this problem? I never changed the brake fluid in 3 years and half ownership and 76000km. Touch wood I did not have the brake simulator problem till now and I am afraid of changing the brake fluid now if there is a risk of braking it. Does this make sense or not please? Should I not touch the brake fluid? I never use one pedal drive and I am very very light on the brakes and gas.
