Just a quick tip to anyone planning to replace the subwoofer; due to the shape of the metal containment where the woofer is located it may cause a bit of a «boxy» sound due to resonance. I put a sound dampening fabric/foam sheet under the woofer as well as around the edges to avoid empty cavities around the woofer. This helped create a much more rounded and rumbling bass without the pops and snaps.

I replaced the rear door speakers today with the same JBL Club 622 that I used in the front doors, and I must say it was pretty much a waste of time and money. I can barely hear them and they don’t really make a noticeable difference, even for the rear passengers.
So just a note to the rest of you that you can probably just leave the factory rear door speakers as is.

@DifficultNorth
Thanks for the hard work you've put in upgrading the speakers in the e and showing us how to do it ourselves.
It spurred me into looking at the prices of the kit, but then remembered that I rarely listen to music in the car as I listen to podcasts in the main and I can't see the value in spending around £300 to upgrade them.

That is a very valid conclusion! I think I ended up paying close to £520 when I include all the tools and accessories. However for me it is very important with good music quality as I always listen to music when I drive. And given that the B&O system in my previous Audi was £1000 I think this is a great deal, and it sounds better!londiniumperson wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 7:57 pm@DifficultNorth

The back uses the same 165mm size correct?DifficultNorth wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 6:30 pmI replaced the rear door speakers today with the same JBL Club 622 that I used in the front doors, and I must say it was pretty much a waste of time and money. The OEM sub just needs a lot of love but.. it's being upgraded... In the meantime a little video of him playing outside of the box (I will keep OEM box just going to upgrade the speaker add insulation and add a low-pass filter to keep the Subwoofer below 120hz) The back door speakers will be upgraded latter to proper mid woofers.

FDAD; Great update! Looking forward for the results. Yeah, the rear door speakers are the same as the front door speakers.
Did you keep your OEM sub? If so would you be willing to sell it?DifficultNorth wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 4:50 pmFDAD; Great update! Looking forward for the results. Yeah, the rear door speakers are the same as the front door speakers.
