Power system indicator warning

Hello all,

Today I went to a Tesla supercharger that I used two times before and tried to get my Honda E charging but it failed. After checking all available spots I found out that there was a warming on the display, indicating the Power system indicator warning (icon of a car with a ! mark in the middle). Went home and connected the Honda E to a normal charger and it started to charge. Called the Honda service center and they send the 'wegenwacht' but the engineer could not read the computer and advice me to went to a dealership on Monday. After some google search I founded this topic. In my case the Power system indicator warning disappeared after approximately one hour. After this, I went to the Tesla supercharger again but again it failed to charge and give me the Power system indicator warning message again. One hour later, the error message was gone again and after this I went to a Shell 175kw recharge station and the Honda E was charging as fast as I am familiar with. This make me curious. Should I avoid Tesla superchargers in the future even though, I used them a couple of times successfully or is there something I need to take into account before I use a Tesla Supercharger. Can this happen at other fast chargers?

As range is limited of the Honda E, fast chargers are kind of mandatory to make road trips.

Looking forward to findings of other members.

Good news! Went to the Honda dealer and the read out the computer. There where some error messages related to short circuit in the charging cables and a worn out 12V battery. It seems a know issue that odd warnings might occur once the battery voltage is too low. As my car only drove 2100km in 2 years (was an ex dealer demo) the battery was not healthy anymore due to not enough usage. Use it or lose it says the guy.

With the new battery installed and the error messages deleted I charged successfully at the Tesla Supercharger without the Power system indicator warning.

Hi think this is a Lucky shot... we are months struggling with our Honda dealer in Apeldoorn. We also get the charge error after a succesfull charge at Tesla. There seems to be a communication problem. Tesla knows the issue.

12V battery is not the issue.. is also already changed at our car.

Got this error message in the dash again today. After charging at the same provider and same type of charger, but different location. Kempower charger at Mer here in Norway.
Charged the car to 98% at a type 2 charger. Measured the 12V, measured at ~13.3V and abit higher when charging from 32A 230V.

Anyone know of a way to "reset" the car as an attempt to clear the error message? Are there any problems that may occur if I disconnect the 12V battery?(there is only 1 right?)

I've started another thread on this in the technical section, because I've not found this thread previously.

Got the power system light on today. It was charging overnight via 230v charger, and in the morning pre-heating was turned on, and the light went on. After drive, the car was parked for 30 mins or so, when I got back and turned it on - the light was gone.

I'm set up for dealership visit next week. I'm gonna let them check any errors in the system, and also check the condition of 12v battery.

Our car have given this warning at least 3 times the last few weeks so I am curious what work others have had done to fix it. Our E is out of the 3yr general warranty 🫣

I have tried to read errorcode using GaragePro. I get code P084F: Issue detected in the input signal from park or neutral gear.
And six other codes without description.

Could you provide a link to the OBD reader you have? I have been looking for one that works for ages! Can you see live data from Garage Pro too?

Also what are the other fault codes, P1D4A is the important one which is what caused my vehicle to have this issue and disables rapid charging. I had this issue after using a Tesla supercharger and had to visit the dealer to clear the fault codes as none of my own diagnostic equipment will communicate with the Honda e. After codes were cleared vehicle was back to normal.

My e was delivered in May 2023, and I've had absolutely zero issues with it until this morning.

Dropped my partner off at work at 07:00 since his car is in having some work done before its annual inspection, and then went to a CCS charger close by where we live as I was on 4% battery. I've used this charger countless times (a 300kw Aliptronic Hypercharger), and it's never given me any issues. It's a two plug affair, tried one plug, flashing red charge light on the car. Tried the other plug, the same. Got in the car, and low and behold:

Screenshot_497.jpg

This one appeared (Power System Indicator) along with quite a few others cycling and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree:

  • Park Pilot Error Indicator
  • Collision Mitigation Braking Error Indicator
  • ABS Error Indicator
  • Parking Sensors Disabled Indicator
  • Airbag Error Indicator
  • VSA Disabled Indicator
  • Electric Power Steering Error Indicator
  • Side Mirror Camera System Error Indicator
  • Pop up hood error Indicator
  • Acoustic Alert System error indicator
  • Low temperature snowflake warning (despite it being 10°c outside)
  • Turtle Mode
  • RADAR error
  • SONAR error
  • Fully amber driver aids/safety system indicator with all safety systems disabled also came on once I started driving away from the CCS charger

The sheer number of messages on the dash was insane, there were so many lights on that it looked like it was a start up system check when all the icons pop up.

Waited until the Honda dealer here in Reykjavík opened at 09:00 and emailed the sales guy who handled my purchase of the car directly at around 09:15 while I was sat at a Type 2 charger a couple of blocks away from my place, trickling some charge into the battery so I could at least get around a little. Type 2 charging was still working fine.

Have to say, I've always had good experiences with Honda both in Iceland and the UK before I moved here, but today was something else.

By 10:30 someone from the service department called me, and told me to bring the car over as soon as I was able, and they'd have a look at it. From there I limped home, changed into something a bit more presentable that the track pants I'd work to take my partner to work (lol) and drove over. Stopped off on the way to jetwash bird shit off the side of the car after it was torpedoed while I was changing, and when I powered the car on after the jet wash all the error messages were gone and the car was stable.

Service team took the car in at 11:00 or so anyway as they wanted to check it over given some of the errors had been related to the brakes, and they mention there was a software update that was ready for the car too. I sat and chatted with the sales guys, who gave me the keys to an e:Ny1 to take out for a test drive to kill some of the time, since I'd been looking around one in the showroom. Actually quite nice to drive, and a lovely little SUV - clearly just a BEV version of the latest generation HRV though.

12:30, I was handed the car back after three software updates. Translating from Icelandic on the paperwork it's something like:

  • Battery Management System Firmware Update
  • Charging Management System Software Update
  • Chassis Control Module System Software Update

They also confirmed that they'd reset all the error codes and that the car should be fine. Absolutely fantastic service from Honda, and the car seems to be doing fine now after a dramatic morning.

On reviewing dashcam footage from my car and trying to piece together what happened, I'm pretty sure I know what caused the issue. It was super foggy, with a lot of moisture in the air as the sun was coming up this morning. Looking at my camera footage, when I was pulling up to the charger, the first cable I tried wasn't seated in its holder correctly. There was condensation on the body of my car, on the casing of the charger, and on the cars parked in the local area.

I think more than likely there was condensation on the charging station's plug, and this is what caused the car to error out the DC charging system and throw a load of other codes.

Thankfully it seems that the issue is gone now, but I guess I'll have to keep an eye on things. Honda did warn me that my range prediction and power consumption figures will be off until the car "re-learns" my driving habits after a few drives, so right now my range is a bit shorter than it usually is. Generally I get between 200-215km out of a charge and run at around 8.5-10kWh/100km, but right now things seem a bit off. Hopefully this will correct itself over time.

This is some fast response from the dealership. Mine would take a couple of days to contact me to tell that they might have a slot at the most inconviniet time in two weeks...

Yep, I was absolutely floored that I got a call pretty much an hour later.

I know where I'll be going if I'm looking to pick up more cars in future. The dealership is a combined Honda, Kia and Mercedes (also Smart) dealer, so there's a lot of choice!
