Michelin Pilot Sport 4 vs e-Primacy Tyres (20% better efficiency?)

I recently replaced all of the original 17" tyres from Michelin Pilot Sport 4 to e-Primacy Tyres and yesterday drove to London.

Here's a comparison of the 2 similar trips:
Date: 26/03/2022
SoC at start: 100% & preheated car just prior to leaving
Distance: 98 miles (using Google Maps)
Occupants: Driver + 2 passengers
Had to stop for a charge 9 miles from home with 4 miles on the GOM
Summary: 98 miles using 95% of charge = 3.62 miles/kWh (assuming 28.5kWh capacity)

Date: 30/08/2023
SoC at start: 100% & preheated car just prior to leaving
Distance: 117 miles (using Google Maps) with more motorway driving than the previous trip
Occupants: Driver + 2 passengers
Arrived at home with 4 miles on GOM
Summary: 117 miles using 99% of charge = 4.15 miles/kWh (assuming 28.5kWh capacity)

On the second trip we had intended to top-up for a few minutes at the same Shell service station which we had to stop at last time because it looked like we might not make it, but as we entered the slip road the range climbed to about 12 miles and we had 9 to go. As we were there I thought it prudent to charge, however the connector was totally trashed and the single EV charger was out of service. Therefore I had no alternative but to head home; I drove very gingerly at no more that 55mph and we only just made it with 4 miles left.

Therefore it seems that the e-Primacy tyres are around 15% more efficient that the Pilot Sport 4.
I know there are several factors involved, but it certainly shows that the e-Primacy tyres are more efficient that the PS4's.

I’ve not had any issues yet.
It rained heavily on a day soon after fitting and I booted it from a junction that the PS4’s always lost traction on but the e-Primacy were fine. I also floored the pedal on a very wet straight road again with no loss of traction.
When new they appear to be perfect tyre, time will tell if they deteriorate as they wear or if they worsen in the winter temperatures.

Recently I’ve regularly been seeing between 5 & 7+ miles/kWh on short short trips, which as you may know from previous threads this was never possible by me on the PS4’s.

The only downside is that they are definitely noisier, I wonder if the PS4’s had foam inserts to damper them down.

More news on the efficiency of these tyres.

I had a trip to North London today mainly via the A3 & M25, and decided on the drive there not to use the HVAC controls, only using the heated seat & steering wheel, then on the return set the temp to 21.5C, here are the results.
On the return trip there was more traffic at times than the outbound journey, however it was raining for most of the the return trip.

Outbound to destination
SoC at start: 100%, charged from 90-100% & preheated car just prior to leaving
Distance: 78.1 miles @ 4.4 miles/kWh from dashboard data
Occupant: Driver

Destination to charge point
SoC at start: 34% & left 20 minutes after arriving
Distance: 10.0 miles @ 5.4 miles/kWh (not a mistake, see photo below) from dashboard data before stopping for a rapid charge
Occupant: Driver

Return charge point to home
SoC at start: 90% & left 40 minutes after arriving
Distance: 71.0 miles @ 4.2 miles/kWh from dashboard data
Occupant: Driver

In summary this is significantly better than I used to achieve when I had the original Michelin PS4 tyres, where I would usually get around 3.1 to 3.6m/kWh on this type of trip and as you can see here it is more like 4.2 to 4.4m/kWh.

Seems like its a decent enough improvement to consider them for replacement summer tires once the PS4s on mine finally need replacing. Really good to see some actual practical numbers and information to demonstrate it.

Due to the unavailability of e-Primacy for all four corners of my 16' wheel, I opted for the Good Year Efficient Grip 2s. I must say, the car now rolls smoother, noise is noticeably reduced, and the grip is excellent—better than the original Yokohama's, especially in wet conditions. I haven't noticed any improvement or degradation in consumption, but please keep in mind that it's currently winter, and with heating on (I have a small child to carry), it's not reasonable to make a definitive judgment.
