We now have proof that Honda collect data from the car irrespective of whether an owner has a working app.
After the subscription updates I can see that ALL of my journeys have been logged on the Honda servers even though I didn’t have the relevant subscription.

All the Honda dealers are doing by ‘updating’ the TCU is actually linking the car to an owners account so they can use the app. The car ALWAYS communicates back to Honda, I would bet my life on that fact that it is a poor implementation of this system that is the cause of the 12v battery drain in 99% if not ALL cases.

That is particularly troubling. Did you at any point turn off vehicle location and data sharing during your ownership? If you did, did they still record journeys when it was off?

No, I left it on, but I still suspect that Honda will be connecting to the car to capture various metrics.

Question is do they do it when "off", or just at the end of every journey when you switch off, eg last journey route?

Hello
Joined dead battery society. Bought ex demo from dealer in August. Two weeks ago wife went out to go to work
Dead. You know the procedure. Honda AA arrived. 6volts. Got us running. Took to dealer - battery ok and no faults..Three days later same again. Dead. Same AA man arrived but couldn't open doors. Had to refer to his lap top. We had to sign disclaimer against damage before he opened door by prizing top of window with a spatula and using a rod to release door manually. Voltage 2v. Appears if that low solenoid in door can't work. Great engineering by Honda eh?
Back to dealer guess what battery ok and no faults...
Take my hat off to you guys with trickle chargers and battery monitoring. Having spent North of twenty grand for unreliable junk are bouncing it back under Consumer Rights Act. Before you ask AA man with twenty years experience checked and nothing left on to justify flat battery. He said a battery discharge to such levels strongly indicates parasitic drain. In passing found out he has been driving Honda's for 20 years and given the number of call outs for EVs he won't be buying one from any manufacturer

Into dealer tomorrow to see lie of land...

The OE battery is crap. Aside from the drain issue which still needs to be worked out, the capacity of the OE battery is far too small, and shrinks drastically over time. Mines not even 3 years old and doesn't have half its original capacity.

The honda tester is not testing for capacity so just a stupid dumb way of testing it. Cranking amps are not what we are interested in, but that's what they test for.

One day we will track down the drain and hopefully prevent it but it's probably a software glitch in the infotainment.

I too am disappointed in honda having bought it based on the reliability of Honda's from 20yeqrs ago, how foolish I now feel! Still have the millennial prelude which will get me to work should the e throw a tantrum again.

I had a similar problem when the OTA update arrived. No problems getting in using my key, don't they supply them in the UK? My trickle charger didn't do much until I disconnected the battery, after that I could get enough charge to start the car and properly charge the battery. Since then I've bought a little combined power bank, torch and jump starter, hopefully now that I have it I won't need it.

The key is usable, I have used it on more than one occasion now (The metal key is held captive in the fob for those that haven't read the manual or aren't generally curious). It will work even when the 12v battery is fully removed from the vehicle. There is a slight knack to it (open handle, but do not pull it, fully insert key (very close to paintwork), turn anticlockwise if I recall, then whilst you hold the key fully anticlockwise against the spring, then pull the handle as if to open).

One UK member said they (and the AA) struggled to open with the key. Perhaps if the battery is not completely flat, the unlock solenoid can get stuck half way perhaps, and the door may not be openable... Perhaps its time to install a jump pack connector accessible outside the vehicle. The charge port connector is the perfect place, if it was possible to pop the charge port externally with no battery.

Unfortunately I've had cause to use the metal key to open the door on a dead Honda e. It's really fiddly – the poor industrial design on the handle means it's awkward to get the key in at the right angle but once I worked that out, I was able to do it. I've had a lot of practice at it now, thanks to the dodgy battery.

Currently got the door handle / window not going up issue again, which I’ll update on another thread.

So far, the car is nearly 3 years old and we’ve had no issues with the battery. However, we’ve only ever used a granny charger at home, and I wonder if that’s a factor?
