It's often said of EVs that they have so few moving parts compared to ICE vehicles that servicing needs are almost non-existent. I was surprised therefore when I first saw the under-the-bonnet shots of the Honda e from the Frankfurt motor show. More filler caps than you could shake a stick at!

So what are all those filler caps for? Well, thanks to manual, and a bit of googling, I think I've worked out most of them:

Firstly, we're introduced to two new (to me anyway) terms here - IPU and PCU.
  • IPU - Intelligent Power Unit
    The IPU contains 35.5 kWh high-capacity battery modules and a 12 V DC-DC converter.
A coolant-cooling method has been adopted to respond to the increased power of the battery, boosting cooling performance.
  • PCU - Power Control Unit
The PCU integrates an inverter that drives the traction motor, an inverter that drives the generator, and a DC-DC converter to boost battery voltage (referred to as a “Voltage Control Unit (VCU)”)
Great, another new "TLA"
  • VCU - The VCU employs an interleaved circuit configuration and a coupled inductor. 🤷‍♂️
So which of those filler caps is which?

Ok, that identifies four of those caps... but look again at the photos. There are five! That large expansion tank up behind the washer fluid filler remains a mystery.

Having not read the manual or pre-knowledge my best bet.

Very frustrating must of missed it but I would have guessed still coolant so would have been right. I wonder how the charge point will hold up with British weather dumping lots and lots of water into it :?

I was wondering that too. They do have an accessory for it, a clumsy bag.

I doubt water will be problem, but worthwhile to have the charge port cover to stop leaves etc from blocking the water egress.

Regarding the charging lid. It's made of glass right? It sounds like there is an opportunity for a knightrider swish to be fitted underneath...

At least while charging ;)

The car needs to be painted black and hacked to change the “ok Honda” trigger word to “ok KITT”
