When you retain number plate online

Anybody has exprience UK DVLA online, retaining current/private reg plate??

It says once process is successful the current reg is removed immediately and original age related number willl be reassigned.

My question is, does DVLA online screen confirm reassigned original/new number there and then, or do I have to wait till V5 log paper (as well as retaining document) arrives via Royal mail to know the number?

Since I applied newly bought private plate on new e, I don't know the original number to start with. Amazon can make number plate in 3days or so, but if I have to wait till post arrives it may take 5days+, and I won't be able to use my car for that period?

p.s. I have decided to move on to Fiat 500e Prima, taking 4-5weeks delivery therefore thinking about timing!

When I saw your topic title, I thought that I could help as I've recently transferred a plate onto rention, however that had already had been registered previously.
I'll keep an eye on the outcome/responses because I'll be in the same situation when I sell my e, because like yours, mine has only had a private reg.

When I transferred my other private reg onto retention I received a V5C PDF of the original registration number via email straight away as well as later via the post, however I cannot guarantee that this will be the case in our situation with the Honda e's.

In my experience of transferring numerous plates online IIRC the reassigned (or original) registration number is displayed on screen on completion of the retention process.

I will give it a go on 2nd Jan, hoping to know the number straight away (and plenty of time to receive post, which is so intermittent on our street these days).

Hopefully I will only have to wait for Amazon 3days delivery of number plate to attach & drive e again!

Here’s the email from DVLA I received immediately after completion of the transfer of the registration from my e, also attached to the email was a pdf file giving authorisation to obtain plates for the reassigned registration number.

All done! As above, immediately altenative number shown and e-mail received. I wish DVLA clearly mention this would happen... Hopefully post will arrive soon.
